Selco-V for Suckler Cattle is uniquely designed for the prevention and treatment of diseases. These diseases are caused or associated with a deficiency of either Selenium, Vitamin E, B12 or Cobalt alone or altogether. It contains high levels of these minerals and vitamins.
Ireland is one of the most selenium deficient countries in the world. Irish pastures supply only 38% of the Selenium requirements of an average lactating cow. (Teagasc 2013)
Selenium (Se) is now recognised as an essential trace element for ruminants. It is required in cattle for normal growth and fertility and for helping to prevent other health disorders such as mastitis and calf scours.
One of the most common deficiency symptoms is myopathy in calves, and it primarily affects the skeletal muscles and the animals have weak leg muscles. A condition manifested by difficulty in standing and after standing a trembling and staggering gait. This is often referred to as knuckling. Eventually, the animals are unable to rise, and weakness of the neck muscles prevents them from rising the head. Commonly known as white muscle disease.
Selco-V when used in Suckler cattle can aid in the prevention or correction of muscular degeneration (myopathy), cardiomyopathy, hepatic degeneration, enhancement of immune response to infectious diseases in animals, stress or ill-health due to poor weather and or malnutrition.
